I think comments made by people like poster TLAK are a perfect example why diesels have never sold well in the USA. Comments made on mis-information, lack of accurate information in general, and little to no actual experience of owning one over time (and taking proper care of it).
He states that the many diesel rigs I listed that been offered for a long time, we NOT long-lived or got good fuel mileage.
Considering I'm still driving many that are close to 30 years old, I have trouble accepting those comments. Some I've gotten over 500,000 miles on before an internal engine failure.
I have many early 90s diesels also in 3/4 tons or more, trucks I won't bother mentioning them because I still consider them as "modern."
My diesel Chevettes get 45 MPG plus. My diesel Volkswagen Jettas get 48 MPG plus. My Chevy 1/2 ton 4WD diesels get a best of 24 MPG. My diesel Ford Ranger truck gets 35 MPG. My Isuzu 4WD diseel truck gets 32 MPG.
Even my 1986 diesel Chevy mini-motor home on a 1/2 ton 4WD chasis gets 16.5 MPG which is pretty impressive for a mobile 4WD camper (that can also plow snow!)
