Hi Don, a well written post. Something also to consider, a feature included, missing, or implemented diffrently will be precieved as good or bad depending of the person using the tractor. What iritates one guy the next won't notice! Lastly it seems to me the largest group of people that think IHs TA system was a bad idea started using 2 cylinders, so they lugged the daylights out of the machine and then shifted er back to TA. With 30 years of experiance I feel qualified to say you should shift so that in the lower gear the engine rpms should nearly reach high idle. This usually means you shift when the tach has dropped below the pto mark a little. The shift should not take more than 2 seconds, most in less than one second. Must be doing it right as have never had to have a TA rebuilt, and we keep tractors at least 8 years. kev
