That's the way it was in our area too Jim. It depended on what the dealer sold and if he was any good. Course it helped that we were only 3 miles from the JD factory. Another deciding factor was what the farmer could get during the war and if it wasn't what he wanted, he might have been stuck with it as it was the only thing available. My folks had to put their name on a list to get our first tractor, a 1945 WC WC. I too miss the sound of any tractor working off in the distance, know what ya mean.
