My!
Aren't we all a bunch of holier than thou types today.
His two friends are dying and who's he feeling sorry for? Himself.
Kind of makes me wonder.
For the record, I smoke.
Have for 40 years.
Do you really think you need to tell me the hazards of smoking? Do you think you are the first and only one who has ever done that?
Do you think I'm not aware of the social and lately, governmental pressure to make me quit?
Do you think the confiscatory "sin" taxes they've put on cigarettes is effective getting people to quit? Or is it really just a cynical way to raise revenue? Do you think I don't know that most smokers cost our health care system LESS because we die earlier?
What about all the smoking bans that have been passed in recent years. Have they been effective in getting people to quit? Do you really not see how state and local governments have eroded our rights whith this phony legislation? Our property rights too incidentally. An owner can't even smoke in his own establishment? Or a condo dweller is suddenly faced with the choice of quitting or selling?
You think these laws are not setting precedent for other intrusive, liberty robbing laws?
You think the new seat belt laws aren't a part of the same thing? And generate huge revenues while they rob our persons of rights?
Do you really believe the hyjacked. jinxed up data on second hand smoke is truthful?
I don't drink pop. Maybe have half a dozen cans of root beer a year. So I don't have a dog in the upcoming fight to tax the heck out of soda pop. Get your comeuppance yet?
How about your weight? Are you towing the line there? I'm fit and I'm trim and I get my exercise. Do you?
I eat right and don't do butter or margerine or mayo any more. Or fried chicken. Shall I remind you of the hazards of saturated fat at every meal and approve of the Feds taxing the heck out of those foods?
Yes sir. Add $3 to the price of a T-bone because it's a killer. Hard on the environment too by the way so add another buck.
To me it aint about smoking. To me it's about giving away your rights. Whether they are being taken away by your local county zoning laws, your land use laws, seat belt laws, smoking laws, upcoming pop and fat and green laws and all the accompaning fees and taxes that always come with them.
You people are giving it all away. All our rights, all our liberties. And you anti smokers are usually the worst of that holier than thou crowd.
I smoke becaus I darned well like to smoke. It's legal. And when it aint legal any more I'll become a criminal. And I'm willing to trade some aspects of life to do it. Including your contempt. But not including your advice.
What tradeoffs are you making yourself?
Are they taxing and regulating your tradeoffs yet?
Making you a pariah for your sugared teeth, poor body mass index or high cholesterol level? Shucks, maybe you don't wash your hands when you leave the restroom or worse yet you don't have good posture. Mother warned us about those just like she did about smoking.
They should tax them all by golly. And make more laws.

Ok. Off my soapbox now.
I had my rant and I dished it out.
So have your turn.
I can take it.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
