It has been a busy week. It is hard to describe how much better the mood is here in farm country since the sun came out and it warmed up. I would never have guessed that conditions could turn around so quickly. We were nothing but mud 14 days ago and today I watched NH3 be put on. Harvest went from a snails pace to a drag race and by the first of the week, very few soybeans will remain in the fields near here. We were able to finish today and will get back to what appears to be MUCH drier corn than we were picking ten days ago. It can really humble a person when you realize we are truely at the mercy of mother nature. Wednesday morning soybean harvest went to full speed ahead for everyone.
The beans have been ready for sometime but untill no one has been able to harvest because of the wet weather.
Even with the short days we have been able to cut 80-100 acres a day and make good progress.
It has dried alot but we havent been brave enough to bring semis out into the fields. We have been loading wagons and taking them to the barn lot and loading semis on the solid footing there.
The beans planted in early june are yielding average to above average and the late planted beans are below average and in places much below.

The weather has been so nice one of the cabless tractors was pressed into service.
Nick has been helping the last couple days by trying to get some cornstalk bales made. The 1086 was put on the batwing as most everything else is tied up.
We should have had this done a long time ago. With so few nice days this was a very big priority. The 3010 raking with those water towers in the background again.

In half mile long rows you get quite a few bales per pass.
Were wanting to get about 50 bales and it looks like we will. Ended up with some baler trouble so a friend came over and will finish up for us in the morning.
This is the tractor kruser saw applying NH3 today. It is the Helena plant from Fairview. We will be harvesting the entire month and into next month so we wont have time to do this ourselves and we need to get over some acres or we will never get caught up. Once you get behind it just snowballs.
Its a 9200 deere with a 16 knife toolbar. Looked like it was going on good and he was covering some ground.
As always, wrigley is along to oversee the operation.
Kinda looks like he is giving me that look like I should be doing something other than taking pictures! Oh well. Hope everyone else is enjoying the weather making as much progress as we have been able too. Finally enjoying the harvest of 2009. bill
