: : I'm looking for a source for a 3pt hitch and related hydraulic gear for a Farmall A. Does anyone know of a conversion that used an electrically powered compressor (ie pickup mounted snowplows) or is it best to mount to the pto.

: : I'm new to this so apologies up front for any really stupid questions.

: If your tractor does not have a factory hydraulic lift, if you want your tractor to look original, you could get all of the necessary hydraulic and lift parts from an A at a salvage yard. A simpler solution, if looks don't matter, would be to run a pump either off of the PTO or off of the front pylley and also install a resevour and valve in a convient location. Northern Hydraulics should be a source for these components. Tractor Supply or Central Tractor might have a 3 point hitch to fit the A.

Joseph,
To give you an idea of costs involved, I received a Northern Hydraulics sale catalog today. If you don't want to go the original route, they have a 11.4gpm PTO mounted pump for $307.99. If you want to go with the pulley mounted pump they have one that will pump 4 gpm @ 1800 rpm to 8 gpm @3600 rpm. You would have to make bracket and size the pulley accordling to get correct pump rpm, but you would have live hydraulics. They have a 2.8 gallon hydraulic tank for $39.99, suction strainer for tank for $12.99, single valve for $61.99 (they have other valves also), and a 2 1/2" x 8 inch stroke cylinders for $59.99. This plus various hoses and fittings would get you going and all else you would need would be to find a hitch or have one built. Hope this gives you a little insite as to what you are looking toward.
