It takes a total 24/7 commitment. If it were easy there wouldn't be any overweight people. I wish I could make the commitment.
Those hunger pains and cravings are there 24/7 non stop. Always gotta think diet. No more eating out and fast food except for salads, etc. No more coffee, tea, and diet or regular colas as they have a chemical in them to stop weight loss, only water or flavored sparkling water.
Nothing works by yourself, everyone in the house has to be involved or forget it. Can't diet while watching someone dig into that gallon of ice cream.
Join a gym and get active. Running and jogging clubs. Start walking. See others walking by, join in, and introduce yourself. They know what you are going through. Some people drive to the mall to walk. Walk the dogs.
No more tv watching except for a bare minimum. Get a Wii and exerciser games and put it on a tv next to your other one. Then if you can't miss a football game, you can at least exercise while watching it.
A change of people you run around with who have the weight gaining sedentary lifestyle such as make new friends at the gym and other places who have active lifestyles. Then you can go to mutual events together that are less sedentary. It's nice to eat out once in a while with other dieters.
It the same issue with drug and alcohol addictions, you have to get totally away from the old crowd or temptation will set in. Their new lifestyle revolves around running around with new friends from AA & NA and people who aren't addicted. It's the same for stopping smoking. Have to do it cold turkey.
With many lifestyles involving both people working, they are too tired to cook (and cook diet food from all those diet recipes) so they resort to eating fast food. (our problem) That's where things like Nutrisystem work. I've tried all the yoyo diets and yoyoed. Atkins worked well for weight loss but we together couldn't make the exercise and eating out parts of the lifestyle change work.
Good luck.
I've been talking the talk here, but I haven't been walking the walk. Yet anyway.

I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
