Yup, know what you mean but I've never tried to replace the coating. Any foundries around your area to ask? I see Valspar (they make alot of the implement paint) has a website - maybe could ask there. Working on an Oliver final drive and it has tan sealer. I've been using solvent sparingly, as it does wash off. IH used to use red oxide and a tan color - was also used to seal any residual casting sand into the casting. Doubt if coating replacement would be essential on older casting.
