My sympathy goes out to you and your family. It never ceases to amaze me how we get so attached to animals no matter how long they are with us. We lost 3 this year, it's been a tough year.
Above is Lucy. She was out in the road and my wife nearly hit her, but she pulled into a parking lot and called her and she jumped in the car. We spent several weeks trying to find the owners amd finally decided to give her away. The folks that took her returned her a few days later because they had a little boy that kept throwing things at the dog. We had her about 14 years. She was actually very friendly, but she didn't like cameras for some reason hence the look in the picture.
Above is Leo, he was also found wandering the streets as a small puppy. Owners were never found so I decided to keep him as a guard dog. Turns out his looks was about the only part of guard dog in him, this was the most sweet natured red Chow I had ever seen. When we moved 6 years ago I decided to leave him with my father-in-law as I was concerned with his well being in the heat we have here in far South Texas. Earlier this year he had to put him down due to cancer.
And above is a picture of Sandy, my best buddy for the last 6 years or so. She just showed up one day hungry and scared of anything that moved. We think she was abused and then dumped and fortunatly for her and us this was the place she had been looking for. No idea of her age, just that after a few months she became the most devoted friend I've ever had (human or animal).
