Reposting advice from here to other boards

Posted by Kim Hartshorn on November 30, 2000 at 08:04:55 from (137.142.50.10):

Recently I received private emails from two different people on the same day asking for advice related to electricity based upon a reply or two that I had made on this site (Tool Board I think)

I have not posted anything about electricity in a couple of months so the thought occurred to me that my YT post must have been reposted on some other board site. I feel, as a matter of courtesy, that posts that are made to this site should not be reposted to other sites by people other than the author of the post. Answers and advice that are given on this site presume a certain user pool, in rough terms, that are at least what might be called "handy" and it worries me that posts that are made here under these presumptions may be being reposted on lists where these presumptions are not at all valid.

Of course there is no way to ensure any of this, I would just hate to see the level and quality of the posts here decline because of fears of being deseminated to a less "handy" audience. We should all respect the quality of this site, perhaps a better practice for those who participate on other boards and are wanting to be helpful would be to suggest that interested people actually log on here and search the archives rather than reposting individual responses.

Just some wandering Thoughts

Kim Hartshorn
