I've had excellent luck with alternator conversions using Goodyear "Hi Miler" and Browning "Grip Notch" belts. Gates, Dayco and probably some others make them too. These are industrial type V-belts that are notched on inside diameter. Cost a little more than the usual hardware store V-belts, but well worth the money. Can't give you the belt number for a Cub, but if you take an old belt to an industrial drive distributor they should be able to match it up for you. Another suggestion: Make sure also the alternator pulley's precisely in line with the other pulleys - even a slight misalignment will cause the belt to heat and wear out quickly.
