James, was cool to watch those short videos, that tractor and sickle bar mower running together almost has a soothing sound to it, it's been a long time since I've cut with or been around one, we used to have a mid-mount on our 64 4000 ford, and when dry weather was forecast, we used it to cut hay, a real tall and thick stand of about 11 acres, directly over an aquifer, always grew nice and thick. We had a pair of mower conditioners, but at times still used the sickle. With the thickness and length of what you are cutting, sure looks like it would dry with no trouble, especially in that heat. I was wondering, I think you mentioned these fields were finished mowed previously, is that so you can can a more lush 2nd cut ? I've cut a small field early with a rotary mower and the next cutting sure looks great. Looks like rain has screwed up the works around here this year, lot of fields with 1st cut still on them, surprising to see some of them as there was a dry 7 days in early June, but since then, lots of rain.
The guy whom I was working with this spring still has his JD 620 and I've run it a few times, and it's been 30+ years since we had our ole B, sure is different those 2 cylinder JD's, hand clutch is hard to get used to for me as the old caterpillar D7 I'm used to has one but works in the opposite direction, makes it interesting. Always amazed at what those 2 cylinder JD's will do, this guy has a photo on the wall of him in his younger days, a 420 with pull behind combine, harvesting oats, had to be early 60's, great shot, I hope to get a copy of it someday, classic shot in the field. One thing is for sure, the sound of his 620 under a load sure is nice.
