Hi, just found this site and glad I did. . I usually get old equipment since I do not have money. and I could use help from people who know about old equipment and tractors.
I bought a old water pump with a ford 172 gas engine. When I got it it ran great. The wiring was in need of help so I rewired it everything seems to work fine. I moved it out to the field to start to see if it would pump water. Thats when the problems started. I had to jump the starter cellinoide to get it to start. The starter button does not work. Once I got it running it ran fine and was pumping water. I had to move the pump to get it stable and must have hit some wires or something. After starting, it started to miss and run on 3 cylinders. I checked the wires and plugs. Put a new set of wires, plugs, roter, dust cap, and distributer cap. now its missing and backfiring. I thing I must have crossed a wire. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRICIATED. I need to get water to my trees there is no rain insight for another week. :(
