CAVITATION IN DIESELS ASSOCIATED CYLINDER WALL EROSION

Let's enter into this discussion about cavitation. I've read several posts over the past few years on cavitation at the water jacket cylinder walls in diesels. I think I understand the cause and the resulting erosion. Does this only occur with wet sleeved engines or with both wet and dry sleeved engines? What does the additive do to reduce the amount of cavitation? Does it modify the viscosity of the coolant, modify the surface tension, or some other property of the coolant? I'd be interested to get some informative feedback for myself, and in behalf of other readers of YT who may be curious. On wet sleeved engines, would ceramic deposition on the water jacket walls help any? Ceramics are finding their way into more modern engines. This would seem to be a possible application. I've used exotic ceramics in the electronics field and some have been formulated to be less brittle. Your opinions, please. Ken McWilliams Dayton, OH
