ford jubilee distributor

i have a ford jubilee that has the copper wire/bar that transfers the electrical current from outside the distributor to the points/condenser broken. question - how do i remove the inside plate so as to be able to replace this piece? i removed the two screws i found on the plate but the plate did not want to move. am i missing something or does it take more pressure than i thought to move it?
