First thing you need to do is get yourself an I&T, FO-4 Service Manual. It answers almost all of your questions. They are available from many sources including the sponsors of this board and your local dealers. Be sure and get the latest edition (1999 I think).

1. Above 32 degrees F, use 30 weight. Below 32 degrees F, use 20 weight. 6 quarts with an oil and filter change.

2. There should be oil in the inner ring of the cup on the breather. There are holes that allow the oil to pass from one to the other. Fill to the line on the cup with the same oil as in the engine.

3. Compression should be minimum of 90 pounds dry across all cylinders. The lowest reading should be within 75% of the highest. If the wet test is much greater than the dry, this indicates worn or broken rings.

4. E118 is a casting code. All you need is the serial and the '*' or '<>' before and after which indicate thin steel or thick cast iron sleeves.

5. Depends on the outcome of the compression tests.

6. As stated before, Get the 'correct' muffler. They are relatively cheap. I have the original on my 8N and I can not hear it running at half throttle at 100 yards.

7. Any good bolt of the correct length, diameter and thread is fine.
