Jim: In 1972 I bought a JD140H3, 14hp,hydrostatic. I still have it,I still use it almost everyday. We mow about 3A., use it to clean stalls and haul manure, haul firewood, scrape the driveway, etc. etc. In all this time I've rebuilt the engine(Kohler) once and rebuilt the mower deck once, no problems from the hydro. Three of the four tires are original. I paid almost $2300 for it in 1972, but when you divid that by the 26 years of use it has provided the original cost seems insignificant. Quality costs but it's worth it. If you really can't afford a new tractor, you might think about looking for a good used JD. Good luck.
: I am in the market for a new tractor, mostle for work around the yard. I need something that gives a smooth ride due to back problems. It seems the bigger tired machines ride better and am looking at garden tractors as opposed to lawn. Can someone give me some good advise? There are so many its hard to decide. Why are JD's so much more than murray or MTD? are sears any better than MTD or Murray? SHould I go Hydrostatic? HELP!!!!!!
