DOT is more correctly spelled GOD, in my experience they are law unto themselves. They can and will find a problem w/ your truck if they want you enough. In my 7 years of opperating mid size and big tandems I have learned the places thhat they routinely set up there checkpoints, then I avoid them if at all possible. If you do find them set up , call 5 friends and have them call 5 friends and so on as to where dot is stopping trucks, w/ in a few minutes you can reroute truck traffic arounnd the checkpoint. This doesn't really answer your ? so I'll tell ya what one of the boys at the farm got caught w/ 3 weeks ago. Air brakes out of adj,1 tailight out, 1 bad(?) tire,opperating out of class, uncovered load, no backup beeper and a couple other tickets I can't recall. I haven't heard what happened at court, but I expect the fine to be at least 1000$ Going rate in NY is 200$ per tire violation. In case you can't tellgetting me started on DOT kinda touches a nerve.
