Not as much a challange with data as you may think. Approx. 6 types w/ 300 data sets at 10 data points per set is only 18000 data points. This would be a *.dbf of only 1800 records w/ 10 fields on a flat (as opposed to a relational) database. Tiny file. Needs this at a minimum to build any degree of accuracy into it (statistically).

It would still be fun to do....

For my thesis work I manipulated and processed about 40 data files each averaging ~100,000 records (a record is like a row) and 40 fields (a field is like a column) or 4 million data points each. Processed over 50 gigs of data....and on antique machines to boot. Took 3 months, w/ a P60 and a 486-66dx. Sometimes we'd set them up to process all night. This accually went way beyond the fun point.

Even these were tiny by todays standards. My wife works with inventory data systems 100 times the little bit (comparatively) I did for my theseis...but hers is on mega multi-processored machines.

Any idea what 10-20 McCormick Deerings are worth? I expect look at one this week, assuming the get my truck repaired today.

The fuel pump went out on my way to work this morning, had to get AAA to tow it 55 miles to a dodge dealer. Just had a call from him ... $325. Ouch. Not sure I like the "sign" .... 120k miles ... first problem on a 94 dodge 3/4 ton w/ 360 v8. The fuel pump is in the tank ... $200+ just for it and another $100 to install it. Fuel pumps used to be about $20 and mounted on the right front of the block .... times have changed.

Now I wonder what other critical parts are due to fail .... the intention is to run it to at least 200k before replacement. Ironic ... this month is the last payment and the first repair. Guess I can't really complain. But I am missing a day of work too.

Later.
Thanks again. Dave
