NO WATER PUMP - which means check out the engine closely and let her run a few minutes to watch the temperature. Check over the hydraulics - specifically for cracks/leaks in the rockshaft housing. On a 40u those housings can cost as much as a tractor if found in good shape. Just look over the basics - oil condition, engine sounds, transmission sounds, PTO condition. Remember not all 40u"s had PTO provision so you may be staring at a blank plate in the rear. Sheet metal is what it is....dubuque tractors are tough to find with perfect sheetmetal. Also check over the front axle...the 40u has a specific cast axle which is different than any other 40 series...values....
Good overall no obvious issues - $3-3500 Ok with some smoke or leaks - $2-2500 anything worse...<$2k...and maybe consider walking away...they are neat tractors wbut locating good parts is difficult. Good luck and post some pics. I sold both my 40u"s 3 years ago....got $3k each.
