I am a John Deere Service tech here in Western Kansas USA, we also run a farm of about 5000 acres also. The 50 series tractors and 55 series tractors are really the same for all intents and purposes. There are some differences in the control of the 3 pt hitch and some internal engine diffenences, but eveything else is basically the same. There are some advanced computer control (at the time they were advanced) on the 55 series that the 50 series didn't have. But both series of tractors are in my opinion the best that Deere ever built. I know of many 4755 4955 4650 4850 4455 4450 tractors in our area that are running great with well over 6000 hours on origional engines and drivetrains. If you take care of your engine and change the fluids in the tractor regularly, it will give you years of trouble free service. I myself am looking for a 46 or 4850 right now as I need to replace an aging 4630 with 11,500 hours on it. brendon
