The J D No 8 would not do the job you are wanting to do, with that you would have to bush hog the vines and then rake then for that type of chopper. What you want is a flail also known as a green chopper that cuts up the stalk and blows it in the wagon at the same time and JD, IHC and NH all built a 60" - 5' model and for your use 20 PTO HP would run one of them, heavy green hay would take more power. And JD also built a No 10 before the 15 that would also do the job, the Deere No 16 was a 6' machine. I think you would want to run the chopper before digging the potatoes as after the vines would be burried so any of those flail choppers would work, depending on width of your potato row how many rows the chopper would take. A 5' chopper is just right for 2 30" corn rows but will take 2 40" corn rows but for 40" a 6' would be better. Do not know model No. on IHC or NH and others also made them.
