Even with an elec ignition switch, you still cant have a shaft thats wobbling all around too bad. On some elec switches a part fits over the cam and lobes which has magnetic tips sort of where the high cam lobes were to trigger the pickup coil as they pass close by, while others still have a pickup coil but dont need the bulkier magnets....... The trouble is if the shaft is wobbling too bad the triggering may be erratic and/or off time and thats not a good thing.
I could be wrong and it all depends on the type of switch and its triggering (and how much shaft wobble and how sensitive the switch is regarding distances from the pickup coil etc etc) but I just dont see an elec switch as a silver bullet or cure all for a worn distributor shaft over the long run at least
BUTTTTTTT if the ONLY problem is a worn cam lobe and NOT shaft wobble, then I can see an elec switch working fine n solving the worn lobe problem completely as it uses magnets where the high cam lobes used to be to trigger the pickup coil
