I have been reading alot of snow removal coments and got to thinking about insurance.
I am a small one horse outfit, but my insurance coverage has the word comercial in it soooo. If I do not have snow plowing as a additionl supliment on my policy, no insurance.
I read about farmers helping out neighbors, going into town for hire, and friends helping friends etc.
I wonder how many have actualy checked the waters by turning in a claim? I used to help everyone and seldom if ever took a red cent for doing so. Once there was a curb shut off (buffalo box) hiding under a snow pile. I bent the crap out of it, but no water leak. Insurance man said unless she paid me for doing so, it could get flakey in a hurry.
Last year while blowing with my tractor I found a telephone pedistal under a pile also. Phone company said there was alot of that last year and they did not send me a bill. Now I do alot less snow removal than in the past.
Any idea how many little wires are in them boxes? whole bunch is a good answer.
I have a understanding that probably 99% of us THINK we have good insurance, and we all sleep well at night knowing nothing can go wrong.
I guess most of us should take the time to call our insurance folks and ask them directly if we are covered. Most questions I ask my agent (real swell guy that used to work for me and call me brother in law) well he says most of the time...I THINK you are but I will call and check it out. Those agents just can't keep up with the parent company, much like we ourselves assume things with our policies.
Not trying to create a war of words here, just a kinda heads up. At one time I found out (thirty years ago) that with my comercial policy once I hooked anything that I did not own and listed on my policy, (other than a boat or snowmobile trailer) lets just say it changed things big time. After being with the company for probably ten years that once the hitch was made it ...VOIDED..my total truck insurance, liability and collision. I can still break into a sweat on a cold winter day thinking about a few times I got close to testing the waters.
