I always wanted to mount a winch on my gooseneck trailer just incase one of the old girls didn't want to start after a show or when hauling a new toy home that don't run. I don't know much about them so i thought I would ask. Now I know they have several kinds of ratings. Say for instance if it can pull 8,000 lbs is that rolling weight or dragging weight? I just wonder how much it would effect the winch when I'm pulling a tractor up over the dove tail. If a tractor would be say 5,000 lbs would I need a winch that could handle double that because of the hill it has to pull the tractor up? I don't want to spend BIG bucks on something I may never really use so I want to try and get the smallest winch I can to cut costs. Since my trailer san handle 8,500 lbs I would want a winch that could pull that much if possable. I'd like to hear any good advice on what you guys out there have. thanks!!
