It does matter that you do not use air, or any other "gas". Compressed gasses are like springs. The stability of the dumping process would be poor. As the load is lifted, the geometry changes and the load is reduced on the cylinder. this allows the cylinder to extend farther/faster. The dumping will proceed with ever greater speed eventually catipulting the last of the load. Even if just trying to drive forward will wiggle the load up and down making a even spread impossible.
