If the three terminals you claim consisit of two big heavy honker battery cable sized, one of the big ones connects to the big battery cable with the other big one to the starter, and if it has one lil terminal thats the solenoid activation (S) terminal which wires to the START terminal on what I'm assuming is a key type turn to START switch. When the switch is in the START position that feeds hot voltage down to the solenoids activation terminal to engage the starter. If its that type it uses the frame as the ground return which gets the ground from the metal mount portion of the solenoid. Those are what I call Ford type solenoids.
If you have some other arrangement describe it n maybe we can figure it out. Most of the regular Ford type solenoids have two lil terminals being S and I and its still the S one that wires to the switch and you wouldnt need the I terminal unless you used a 6 volt coil with a ballast on a 12 volt tractor and wanted to use the start by pass for a hotter starting spark.
