OK, think about this logically. That thing fell in there with a little hammering so it will come out one way or another.
Do you know someone that works at a muffler shop? They do that sort of thing all the time. The extraction would be a piece of cake with an acetylene cutting torch so long as you know how to direct the flame at the thinner steel and hit the oxygen trigger before the cast iron got too hot.
Can you compress that steel so it fits back through the hole that it went in? Try a pair of big screwdrivers, a small pry bar, or whatever you have.
Can you grab that with vice grip type pliers? If so, do that, tighten them up really tight and then pry on the pliers.
Lanse, this is one of those experiences that we all have. That "I was going to, but" is what makes you a lot more careful the second time you have to cut a muffler off an exhaust manifold.
