I live in N.W. Alabama. Years ago, when I was in south Alabama, we had Fire Ants. There were red colonies and black colonies. These ants were the size of Carpenter ants and had a sting like a wasp. They would build a mount 2 foot high and 3 foot in diameter in two days. They were a serious problem. Everyone I know calls every ant they see "Fire Ant". All pesticides are labeled for fire ants. My 7 acres is infested with small ant mounds and the ants are 1/16" long. I call these pi**ants, not fire ants. I have found nothing that will control these pests. During dry weather, they are scarce but after a rain, they are everywhere. What is your description of a Fire Ant and what do I have?
