A properly built TH7004R is fine IF. Like any other transmission. Ther eis enough cooling capacity, in particular when running without the torque convertor locked up. If fact check that. Some home tinkerers tend to pull the wire off the lockup. The cooler sized for use with a working lockup convertor can not keep the temps down with the extra slippage. Precission Industries build single, triple and five plate lockup torque convertors. They don"t slip and they don"t make heat. To be honest I would look at something that old. The 1998-2006 trucks are selling shockingly cheap. The 4L80"s in those were built for towing.
