Your chances are about 80/20 in my opinion, and I am a chevy man. I mean about 20% chance you will have good luck, and about 80% likelyhood you will have bad luck, and the bad luck will be expensive. The 6.5 is an improvement, from what I hear, over the 6.2. A couple weeks ago, over on the SF machinery board, A guy was out there wanting to put a 6.2 in a new ( 1999 or 2000) chevy 1/2 ton. ????????? He basically bit my head off in the reply because I stated (in a nice way) that it was a bad idea. This is off your question a little, but worth a little thought. If you want to buy a Chevy, get a gas engine. Even the recent gas 454 Vortec get decent gas milage and they have a long proven history of reliability, and are relatively cheap to work on. Even the vortec 350 will handle a lot. I have the 350 in a Z-71 and it gets 16.5 MPG, and I wouldnt be scared to tie to most anything reasonable. I could go on and on about stories from people around here, and their experiences with engines, but you have enough of those to look at here. The long and the short: If you really want a Chevy, please get a gas, I think they have the best gas by far. The Ford (Navistar) diesel is probably the most powereful, but also consumes the most fuel. (About 11 MPG loaded or empty I'm told by a friend who has a 2000 with a powersroke) I think the Dodge is the best value. A little noisy, but lots of power, good fuel milage (20 empty, 14 loaded, info from another friend) And they will run and run and run. The cummins name means something, doesn't it?
