something isnt right here, i would think the wrong muffler would just cause poor engine performance maybe some heat but not enough to melt the machine, unless the exhaust is blowing directly on it, the only thing i can think of is air flow problems how did the air flow around the original engine, compared to the honda? is the honda taller and sitting up under the hood more where air isnt getting to it, or is it closer on any of its sides to the body of the tractor? can you post some pics, im courious on this as i was thinking of repowering some stuff with honda engines, i had bought a honda walk behind lawn mower in 1985, it ran until 2004! and thats with us using the heck out of it, i was buying a briggs powered mower every 3 years before that
