Lanse I just went out to look at my b, I think those are drains to keep the brake shoe and drum area from filling up with water and or oil leaking out out of rearend. Also there are 3 drain holes 1 in transmission, 1 in rearend, and one in the hydraulic unit. The gaskets between these units form dams so that each unit has some oil in it if you let it get low. Mike
