I've got several older Mahindra tractors with IH name-tags on them (B-275s and B-414s). Made late 50s, early 60s. Great and rugged small tractors. Live power, live hydraulics, hi-low range trans, differential lock, etc. For their time - they were excellent. New ones? I don't have a clue - except one model sold now by Mahindra is based on one of the original tractors made 50 years ago - has new sheet metal and a new DI engine.
As far as the U.S. suffering because you buy foreign? Give me a break! Last parts I bought from Deere, over the counter in Deere boxes - were made in China. Last new parts I bought for my IH, over the counter from my local Case-IH dealer - were made in India.
I'm an U.S. citizen - and as I see it - I suffer when I have to pay super-inflated prices for American products because of rediulous U.S. union-extorted wages.
There is nothing un-American about not being an idiot with your money and trying to get the most for your buck.
Now - as to what Mr. Buick-Deere says - it's a valid point. Name-brands like Deere certainly have better long-term resale value - and usually - better parts support. As to the latter though -I've got a 1960 Deere 1010 and also a 1960 IH Mahindra. Right now, parts support - from Case-IH and/or Mahindra - is better than from Deere for these particular tractors. In fact, Mahindra will sell me a brand-new, drop-in DI diesel engine to fit my 1960 IH - if I wanted it. That's pretty amazing.
