That's a purty good deal Tom. I read the others here and they're right. The only truck I ever made any real clear money with was a Mack. If your gonna haul equipment out of state there you can get an IRP tag for 54,000 lbs and you don't have to pay the federal road tax, and you can get by with farm insurance.
You don't have to ride 57mph in a Mack unless you just want to. Holler if it aint pulling out and I'll tell you how to set the pump if you don't already know how.
I had a 56 B61 with a 675@170hp in it and a 72 R600 with a 676@237 in it, if you do the work yourself the Mack aint no higher to rebuild than anything else. A good point on a Mack is that they usually don't need as much parts and tinkering as anything else.
An old Mack here does'nt have any resale value so I would'nt put a war pension in it, but it might be worth fixing up to haul tractors. If age was the reason they quit running the truck there's a good chance the drive train is in good enough shape to run it like it is.
I always put rod and main bearings in at about 100,000 to 125,000 miles and I never had any Mack troubles.
