Batery salespeople are in bussiness to sell batterys! Over charging will cause premature cell burnout. Also we don't know why battery is down, it may have one or more shorted cells. ie: eight volts is now six volts or less depending on # of shorted cells. Thus with a higher charger battery will overheat and may explode. As I said previously no lead acid battery should be charged more than three volts above its rated output except in the boosting stage and then only ten seconds on one to two minutes off. Safety glasses and related equipment is very important.I have niebors that buy expensive batterys and seem to always have them go bad prematurely and with a simple volt meter find the chargeing circut output at sixteen volts or above. I buy the cheapies and they last way past thier warrantes with my charger circut never exceeding 14 1/2 volts (12 volt system}.I don't look to step on anybodys toes' just wanted you all know what has worked for me.As for over chargeing I have witnessed many batterys explode' some due to overchareing some due to shorted cells even when the charger was matched with the battery.
