Well after losing my ol chesapeake a few years back to cancer , we had adopted a Springer Spaniel from the local Humane Society for pets. Had him since July of 05. 5 year old, trained, mello, fun dog. Loves people. He plays base ball with the boys. He's the out feild. One pitches, the other bats and runs, and Jake ( the dog) plays outfeild. He actually will retrieve the ball and try to catch them if the are running the bases. Other wise he runs it back to the pitcher or if only 1 kid, back to the batter. Great Dog. Well, yesterday morning he was bleeding outa his mouth, and it wouldnt stop, after a while decided to bring him to the vet. Turns out his blood wasnt clotting, vet said at some point he musta got into some mouse poisen, we bait the chicken barn heavy at clean out and he musta found some. So a small cut from chewing a stick or something caused the bleeding, transfusion would be 4 times at $700 each. I cant do that. So she gave him a shot and sent some medicine home with me. She said if he makes it past 2 days he be fine, otherwise he will slowly bleed to death. No hard food, no fetching or any other strenous activity. That was sucky news. Told the kids right out, no sense fooling them. So far the bleeding has stopped, he has no lung issues or rectal bleeding so I think he may be in the clear as long as he doesnt get hurt inside or out till the 3 weeks of medicine are through him. Vet said for a dog his size even 3-4 little pellets of bait can kill a 65# dog. Sorry so long just wanted to share. Yes, we do use bait boxes, he must have knocked it around or something to get at some bait.
