Depends a lot on the type of turf tire. The older style diamond tread is nearly worthless on wet grass or any other surface. The newer style 7 rib design isn't bad, especially on a 4x4 tractor.
If the price for the tractor is right, I have seen people run a set of light tire chains year round. Otherwise you are probably better off replacing them or waiting for a tractor with the right tire.
