Price of oil going up so high, for heating oil 2 weeks ago I paid 97 cents a liter, thats about $3.88 a US gallon, Yes Canadian here. I have to use oil to heat where I live, no natural gas lines near me, propane just about as expensive. Last year oil 73 cents a liter, about $2.92 a US Gallon, cost me about $3000.00 to heat this big old house last year.
I have been checking into Wood Pellet Stoves, a friend of mine got one 2 years ago and their oil bills use to run about the same as mine. Now for the last 2 years they have used about $1100.00 in wood pellets and just a bit of oil. Savings about $1,500.00 a year.
Guess my questions are, any of you use Wood Pellet stoves? What brand is the best? Have been told Hammond brand is the best. A 55,000 btu stove will heat a 1800sq ft home? I can run a couple of ducts from my cold air return to 10 feet infront of the stove, leave the furnace fan running and it will circulate the heat through the house? Anything else I need to know? Sorry for the long post but I need to do use something besides oil heat would like to know your thoughts before I spend $5,000.00 on a stove and install.
I bought a (40,000 btu)1200 classic bay Quad-dra-fire stove(made in wash.state)about 5 years ago and could not be happier. It has auto ingition and thermostat.I pay around $165 per ton(50 bags per skid 40 pounds each).coobie
