MBU, Your nest are too high, hens will roost and crap in them at night. Don't need that many nest anyway. Two hens will get in one nest to lay there eggs even if one is empty. Stupid chickens do stupid things. As for good egg producers, longevity and gumbo size go with Black Australorps. Also to rotate your stock every three years get you some good setters like bantam coachins. Don't waste your money on an incubator with a few coachin hens around waiting for that job. Most important order your stock with all the available vaccine injections for healthy birds. A tad bit of bleach in the drinking water and you'll be in business.
Six to eight drops bleach to a gallon of fresh water.
Experiment with the roost to see how well they can get up and down. Hens will fight for one place on the roost every night.
