Cheap is going to be hard to come by. The last bag of cover crop (bin) wheat I got this year was the last bag the co-op had, it was 13.50 and they could not get any more. If you could get wheat or rye grass on the ground now in a thaw, it might make some pasture or hay, which ever you want. It is kinda late to be plan'n for that now, if you had longer in the summer, I would say go with a warn season annual like Sudan or pear millet, but you are not going to get them more than a foot tall by the middle of June. If your going for hay these are hard to get up that early because they take a while to cure, that is why I like cut'n them in July, August, and September because you don't have much of a chance of them getting wet. Good luck and tell us what the county ag agent says.
