Well lets see. We raise fertle hatching eggs via contract with Sanderson Farms. We have 10,000 hens and a 1,000 roosters in a house, and have two houses which were a $550,000 investment. Those chickens eat app. 24 tons of feed a week. Sanderson Farms provides the feed, the chickens, and their expertise. We provide the buildings, the labor, the water, and the utilities. Each chicken is valued at $40 apeice by Sanderson Farms. We collect at peak 9000 eggs per house per day, and right now we are averaging 7250 eggs/house/day. They pay us $.42 cent a dozen, and $.09 cent a dozen for nonhatchable. We use up to a 1000 gallons of water a day, have $1000-1100 utility bills, $500 dollar gas bills, taxes, insurance, cleanout, and farm expenses, and have to pay the bank to boot. We live comfortably, we eat, but we sure can't afford to be frivilous. Getting a $1500-2000 check every week is nice, but bills eat it up. Enough of a rant. Just thought I would show a little different view on this.
