The fuel shuts off whenever the engine deccerates from a higher speed and the throttle is in the idle position. 5 the fuel is atomized better, 6 more air enters a diesel than a gas burner of the same size as the gas particles take up space when entering the combustion chamber, 7 most diesels exibit a better swirl in the combustion chamber, 8 diesels can rid the spent exhaust gases better due to the high compression( less space for the spent gases to remain in the cylinder when the piston is at top dead center).
