Under cold conditions after start up, the oil in the transmission and hydraulics is cold and it puts a big load on the engine when you let the cluth out in neutral. Advancing the throttle or adding a little bit of choke can help that.
Cutting out when advancing to higher rpm under cold conditions can be caused by too lean a mixture for the cold conditions or a weak spark or both. It can also becaused by stuck advance mechanism. Weak spark can be caused by improperly set points, worn distributor bushing/shaft, burned or corroded points, bad kew switch, weak coil or improperly hooked up coil, bad connections, weak battery, etc. There maybe some fuel flow restriction to the carb.
