You've heard the saying "beware the ides of March". This gal was probably thinking "beware the ideas of a redneck". So...if you're in a small town where everybody knows everybody and you didn't know her, she was probably just visiting. Maybe from a big city. My sister moved to Chicago while she was still young and said one of the cardinal rules is never make eye contact with a strange guy. It's gotta be a burden to bear, always having to be on guard. And when you did what you did, she probably thought she was right being cautious.
Gotta tell you one that happened to me. Back in the days before cellphones when cb radios were more common, I did a lot of interstate traveling. On the cb was a gal's voice saying her car was conking out. Up ahead a short way I saw a car going off on the berm. I called back describing the car and asked if it was her. She said yes. I pulled up behind to see what I could do to help. Pretty soon she got out for me to try restarting it. First I put the gas pedal to the floor, and it started. THE ISSUE WAS, WHEN I GOT IN HER CAR THERE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS A STACK OF MONEY! I think she realized it the same instant I did. I got back out as quick as possible. The car continued to run, I told her I'd stay behind til the next exit, it wasn't running right but it made it.
