I learned about Grey's a while back when a certain orange dealer sent a man to trade his little orange tractor at my place because they were afraid it would hurt their reputation with one of their kind on their lot that could not be repaired and definatly not re-sold. I have dabbled in buying and selling tractors for a few years, but could never figure what 'grey' actually meant. [stupid me actually thought for several years it had something to do with the color of the chassis like a Ferguson or Red Belly or something] The first one I saw sold was about 12 years ago, and there was a bunch of different import tractors going through this sale. When this particular grey one came up, the crowd left like there was bad gas or something. When I asked about why no one would bid, I was informed that the tractor was a 'grey model'. Now today, I have a better understanding of what constitutes a grey model, but I see 30 to 50 tractors I can not even pronounce the names of at any given sale. Read my line above about the best tractor made. I am sticking with what I know. And incidentially, I think it should be a punishible law to scrap a usable tractor or other piece of machinery used in the production or harvest of food or clothing. Tom S.
