Lanse gave the serial numbers for the 1945-51 Fordson E27N Major.
DIESEL MAJOR 1952-1960 serial numbers:-
start number each year
1952-1217101
1953-1247381
1954-1276857
1955-1322525
1956-1371418
1957-1412409
1958-1458381
1959-1494448
1960-1538065
The serial number used by Ford was the engine number which can be found on small tin plate on engine side of battery firewall. The engine number will be stamped into a small flat block on the left rear side of engine by the starter motor up to March 1956; and on front right of cylinder block after March 1956.
Engines did get changed in service, so the engine serial number may not be the same as the actual tractor number.
Only way to date tractor is by casting codes on engine block, gearbox, rear axle. These are raised numbers and usually very similar to each other because the castings were used quickly.
H28C = June 28th 1959 & J8C = July 8th 1959.
So based on these numbers your tractor would be built in early July 1959.
The E1ADKN & E1ADDN are the starting letters of the Fordson Major parts for example
E1ADKN-5230-A is the exhaust muffler.
Hope this helps you.
David

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
