My trusty Fiat 411R has a broken 1st/reverse selector fork in the gearbox. It has just snapped off near the top. (I think she was jealous of the "new" MF65 which arrived that day!)
The selector is fixed to a shaft at top of the gearbox, along with the 2nd/3rd selector shaft and the Hi/Lo range selector which is in the middle. The gear lever engages slots in the top of the selectors.
What I would like to know if it is possible to remove the selector shaft without splitting the gearbox behind the main gearbox.(quite a big job for me) If I can remove the shaft, or move it enough to remove the selector from the shaft, I should be able to weld the broken parts and reinstall. The selector fork is attached to the shaft by a roll pin so it should be able to move on the shaft when the pin is removed. The thing I can not work out is whether the shaft can then be slid along far enough to allow the fork to be taken off the shaft.
