You can use kerosene in place of distillate. It is my understanding that distillate was not quite the same as kero, but that's about as close as we can come today. The usual method is to start and run on gasoline until the engine is up to temperature, 160 degrees farenheit or so, and then switch to kerosene. Here in the US, gasoline and kerosene are about the same price, and gasoline produces more power, so I run my distillate F14 on gas all the time.
