I`d run it thru the EECV tests with your snap on scan tool. Could easily be a sensor problem somewhere else on the truck. Outside things to look at are, VSS, TPS, Mass Air Flow, and brake switch. The Vehicle speed sensor is by far the most problematic of the bunch. I can`t remember for sure but on a 92 you could have a speed sensor on the tailshaft of the trans (or transfercase on 4wd) and one on top of the rear pumpkin. On the trans the biggest problem is oil passing thru the sensor messing up continuity, on the rear it`s corrosion or wear in the harness and connector.
Whatever it is diagnosing the early fords stinks, you can`t get any decent live data off a scan tool to watch as you drive it, and they can be a real pain in the butt to throw a code, even with a dead failure.
If it does end up looking like a speed sensor problem, it`s often cheaper and faster to just replace the sensor and connector.
If you can run it thru the Key on engine off and key on engine running tests and find any codes, I may be able to help narrow it down more.
